12:00 AM - 12:00 AM YOUTH GUIDANCE HELI-DROP HAS SMOOTH LANDING DESPITE CHALLENGES
The new date and precarious weather didn’t stop the Heli-Drop Ball Bash
& BBQ from being successful in its inaugural year as a creative new
fundraiser for Youth Guidance. The much talked about event was held
April 21 at the Vero Beach Sports Village where 300 attendees enjoyed an
action packed evening complete with the giveaway of cash prizes. The
event commenced with a fun-filled kickball game between City and County
officials, emceed by County Commissioner Wesley Davis, with the County
winning 14-12. Due to inclement weather in West Palm Beach, the
chartered helicopter was unable to fly to Vero to drop the golf balls but the
organizers were prepared by having Commissioner Davis choose the
winning golf balls from a large bingo-style tumbler. The prize schedule
was modified based on the number of balls sold (260) and the following
individuals won: first place, Bill Depp, who donated $2,100 of his $2,500
back to Youth Guidance; second place, Exchange Club of Sebastian, Youth
Guidance supporter; third place, Debbie Martella, Youth Guidance
mentor; fourth place, Mike Swan; fifth place, Karen Morein; and sixth
place, Gina Joyce. Live music from the popular local band VooDoo, a
cash bar and Bono’s BBQ added to the festivities of the evening. The Heli-Drop netted over $14,000 which will be used to continue Youth Guidance’s
vast array of year-round mentoring programs and activities. A big thanks
to the following for volunteering their time and donating their goods and
services to make this event possible: the good natured and energetic city
and county kickball players, Treasure and Space Coast Radio, Sebastian
and Treasure Coast Exchange Clubs, The Rosato Plastic Surgery Center,
Carter Associates, Inc., Charm on the Treasure Coast and the Inside Track
Almanac. A special thanks to the Vero Beach Sports Village for their
support, involvement and cooperation.
